Effy Peel
If you’re looking for high-quality pizza and more in Peterborough, you’re probably going to head to Jim’s Pizza and Pasta on Aylmer Street. After being born in Montreal, Effy Peel and her family moved to Peterborough in 1970; where her parents decided to venture and open their own business. 53 years after its original opening, Effy has moved into ownership after her parents were the original operators. Jim’s Pizza and Pasta is known for making everything from scratch. Everything made in the restaurant is made with love and in an “all hands on deck” style, with high-quality food and service. This has stemmed from Effy’s parents’ vision of the restaurant, which she carries on today. Currently, Effy has around 15 team members who go above and beyond to ensure that her parents’ original vision remains the same. Additionally, Effy ensures that her employees are always well compensated, which played true throughout the pandemic; she’s always had, great staff. Over the years, Jim’s Pizza and Pasta has been in three locations. The original location was at Brock and George, but then moved to the corner of Charlotte and Aylmer Street in 1996. They moved to their current location, the corner of Hunter and Aylmer Street in 2013. Effy has always been a strong advocate for supporting the Peterborough community, as did her parents. Through Jim’s Pizza and Pasta, Effy provides sponsorship to several local sports teams in her community, as well as donations to groups who need support. Looking back, Effy is most proud of the success of the family business and the continuous consistency in the quality of products and services. As well, Effy loves being able to have relationships with her customers in the community, including seeing customers who have grown with the restaurant over the years. Effy’s advice for the next generation is every single person has a gift, so use that and do what you love. Knowing what you love when you’re young is the key to your future, which the opportunity to follow your dreams. |
