Michael Konopaski

Michael Konopaski embraced the concept of hustle at a very young age. As early as nine years old, he was helping his father stuff envelopes and program the auto-dialer. He received a soccer scholarship to Clemson University and returned to Peterborough to join his family business, investment dealing, in 1995. Michael’s early experiences included “cold calling” and starting up the insurance division. In 2001 he was hired to teach in the Trent University Business Administration Program. While there, he wrote his PhD thesis, documenting experiences of forty local family business owners. As a full-time professor, he laid the groundwork for an Entrepreneurship specialization at the university, eventually teaching over 10,000 students. Michael left Trent in 2011. He founded the Kawartha Family Business Group and opened a new firm – Inclusive Advisory. While he had his CPA designation, he had not worked in public accounting. His vision was of a single consulting firm that took care of accounting, legal, and wealth management advice, and that would assist business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals and non-profits. He acknowledges, “In the future, your accountant will be your lawyer”. Helping youth has always been important to Michael, who says “there is nothing more important then the kid that sees the lightbulb go on.” This has led him to work on a number of boards, and found 100 Men of Peterborough to further assist local charities and non-profit.
